How SFERRA's VP of Product Development Styles Her Home for the Season
As the seasons change, so can the mood of your home. In this Q&A, Susanne Lorenzo, SFERRA’s VP of Product Development, shares ideas and product picks for refreshing each room with thoughtful fall and winter updates.
How do you balance aesthetics and functionality when transitioning your home’s decor for different seasons, particularly in fabrics, color palettes, and statement pieces?
I transition my space by adding new decorative layers, such as pillows and throws, onto my sofa. This helps not only to change textures around my space but also adds a new depth of color to my existing pieces all while allowing the environment to transition to a new season. The goal is to have a home that not only looks beautiful but is also comfortable and welcoming at the same time, so balancing layers that work together visually and practically can sometimes be a challenge.
What key elements and products do you adjust to evoke the feeling of the fall and/or the holiday season, and how do they influence the ambiance of your home?
I believe transitioning your home to evoke the feeling of fall/holiday is important. I use it as a time to refresh my home with a change of textiles, color palette, lighting, scent and even sound. At my home's entry, I want you to feel a difference from season to season, so I change out a few accessories on my entry table as well as a new scented diffuser to set the tone. I love adding pops of seasonal color which can be done with a runner or through the accessories you choose, such as a new vase or catch all tray.
What are 3 SFERRA items you suggest to refresh the bedroom for FALL?
Changing your linens from cotton percale to cotton sateen will help you sleep more warmly in the colder months. Giotto is my go-to sateen of choice for cooler weather. A layering of the Nerino wool blanket helps keep my bed cozy during chilly nights along with a Cervino throw folded at the foot of the bed for added texture and pop of color.
What are 3 SFERRA items you suggest to refresh the bathroom for FALL?
Adding a change of color to refresh your bathroom for fall is easily achievable with a change of towels and tub mat/rug. Take a step further and not only change color but add a new and different texture to your bath towels for another visual option, such as Canedo that plays a reverse terry to a veloured surface. I enjoy a robe when exiting the shower, so perhaps hang a heavier terry robe or cashmere robe for a cozy spa experience at home. The last add for me would be a new scent to really awaken the start of a new season.
What are three SFERRA items you suggest refreshing the dining area for memorable holiday gatherings?
A new set of Festival napkins in fall jewel tones, I like setting my table with a mix of tones, usually two or three. Add in a fun set of napkin rings, such as Cestia, to bring dimension and added texture and ground the center of the table with a set of Candelara candle stick holders. The mixing of color and materials adds ambiance to the room and more of a feast for the eyes.
